Which Toto Models This Applies To

Close-coupled toilets: Drake II (CST454CEFG), Ultramax II (MS604114CEFG), and Entrada (CST243EF). These use standard 12-inch rough-ins and Toto’s proprietary 3-inch flush valve, which is wider than the industry 2-inch standard. The flapper is model THU500S, not interchangeable with generic 2-inch replacements. We stock THU500S on every truck.

Skirted/Universal Height bowls: Carlyle II, Carolina II, and Maris (MW614574CEFG). These require Toto’s UniFit adapter if the rough-in is 10 or 14 inches, and the adapter is series-specific. A Carlyle II adapter will not fit a Maris. We verify this against the rough-in measurement before ordering, because a mismatch adds a week to the schedule.

Wall-hung and Connect+ systems: CW542Y bowl with WT152M carrier, or the RP wall-hung bowl with in-wall tank. These are common in Santa Clara ADUs where floor space is at a premium. The carrier plate must align with 16-inch or 24-inch stud centers; Toto’s plate is adjustable, but only within a 2-inch range. In pre-1970 Santa Clara framing, we sometimes have to sister studs or switch to a Geberit carrier with wider adjustability.

OEM versus aftermarket: For Toto flush valves and flappers, we use OEM parts. The 3-inch flush valve geometry is patented, and aftermarket equivalents we’ve tested (Korky, Fluidmaster) either seat poorly or wear the tank outlet unevenly. Signs Your Toto Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

• Phantom flushing or tank refilling every 20-30 minutes. The flapper (THU500S) is losing its seal, usually because hard water in Santa Clara’s Hetch Hetchy supply has mineralized the flush valve seat. The flapper itself is $12; if the seat is scored, the whole flush valve assembly needs replacement.
• Weak flush that requires a second hold of the lever. The 3-inch flush valve chain is out of adjustment, or the fill valve (TSU99A.X) is delivering less than the 1.28 gpf spec rate. In Santa Clara, fill valve screens clog with manganese sediment faster than in Peninsula cities with different source blending.
• Water pooling at the base of a skirted toilet. The UniFit adapter seal has failed, or the adapter was never fully seated during installation. Skirted bowls hide the connection, so the leak often runs along the subfloor before appearing at the front of the bowl. We’ve found this in three Santa Clara ADU conversions on Kiely Boulevard where the original installer skipped the silicone bead Toto specifies.
• Wall-hung bowl rocks or separates from the wall. The carrier bolts are loose, or the carrier frame was installed without checking plumb against the finished wall plane. Toto’s specification allows 1/8-inch tolerance; beyond that, the bowl gasket compresses unevenly and leaks. This is structural, not a parts issue, but it presents as a fixture failure.
• Washlet seat loses power or spray pressure drops. The inline strainer on the T-connector is clogged, or the GFCI protecting the outlet has tripped. Santa Clara’s electrical code requires dedicated 20-amp GFCI circuits for Washlet outlets in new ADUs; older additions sometimes tap into shared bathroom circuits, and the voltage drop under load causes erratic behavior.
