ProLine Series (1998-2010): Single-hung and sliding windows with white or almond vinyl frames. The balance shoes are IKO-specific #PL-4400 and #PL-4401 - not interchangeable with Simonton or Milgard equivalents despite similar dimensions. The critical gotcha: ProLine used two different sash cam widths (1-1/4″ and 1-3/8″) depending on whether the unit was manufactured in the Toronto plant or the Chicago plant. Designer Series (2002-2012): Double-hung and casement units with woodgrain laminate interiors. Multipoint lock hardware here was sourced from Roto Frank, but IKO specified a 28mm backset rather than the standard 35mm. Aftermarket multipoint kits won’t seat properly without machining the mortise, which we don’t recommend.

Performance Series (2006-2016): The last IKO line sold before the brand exited the U.S. residential market. These used a proprietary tilt-latch design (IKO part #PS-TL-01) that cracks predictably after 8-10 years of Santa Clara’s thermal cycling - hot afternoons against cool Bay breeze evenings. Signs Your IKO Windows & Doors Is Failing

• Sash drops or won’t stay raised. The coil balance spring has lost tension or the balance shoe has cracked at the pivot cam. • Sliding door requires excessive force to operate. The tandem roller carriage has flat-spotted or the track has worn a groove. IKO sliding doors used a 1-1/2″ diameter steel roller with a nylon tire; after 15 years, the tire disintegrates and the steel wheel scores the track. We stock the retrofit carriage with a stainless steel axle and polyurethane tire.
• Lock lever turns but doesn’t engage. The multipoint gearbox has stripped internal gears, or the shootbolts have corroded in their housings. Santa Clara’s coastal-influenced air accelerates this - we disassemble, clean, and lubricate if possible; replace the gearbox if the worm gear is stripped.

The balance system is under spring tension; releasing it without a sash brake can send hardware into your face or through the glass. Sliding door panels weigh 80-150 pounds; tilting them to access rollers risks back injury and glass breakage. And any IGU replacement requires proper desiccant-filled spacers and argon fill - done wrong, you’ll have fog again in two seasons.
