Signs Your Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

• Drawer boxes sag or bind. Ameristar Builder Series drawers use a 1/2-inch particle board box with a melamine face, and the bottom panel is set in a 1/4-inch dado without mechanical fasteners. A homeowner who keeps tightening eventually strips the hole completely, and the door hangs by one screw or drops out of alignment.
• Sink base cabinet floor swells or softens. The floor panel in Ameristar sink bases is 1/2-inch particle board with a thin melamine face, not a full waterproof membrane. A slow drip from the P-trap or a garbage disposal seal that weeps occasionally keeps the panel wet underneath where you don’t see it. The particle board turns to oatmeal from the bottom up, and by the time the countertop feels spongy, the cabinet box needs replacement.
• Lazy Susan or corner unit hardware seizes. The polymer trays and center posts in Ameristar corner units use a bushing, not a bearing, at the pivot point. Cooking grease and dust mix into a paste that hardens in the bushing, and the tray starts requiring two hands to rotate. Eventually the polymer tray cracks at the hub from the torque, and the whole unit needs replacement because Ameristar doesn’t sell the hub bushing separately.
