Tremron Fence Installation: The Santa Clara Owner’s Guide

Which Tremron Models This Applies To

Tremron’s fence line breaks into three series that matter for Santa Clara installations: the residential-grade Sierra, the heavier-duty Coastal for wind-exposed lots, and the commercial-spec Titan. Each uses a different post wall thickness and rail profile, so a Sierra bracket will not seat properly on a Titan post - the bolt pattern is offset by half an inch, which is enough to create a stress point that cracks the rail pocket over time.

To identify your series, check the inside face of the end post for the stamped model code, or measure the post wall: Sierra runs 0.060 inch, Coastal 0.080 inch, Titan 0.100 inch. The rail profile differs too - Sierra uses a snap-lock rail, Coastal and Titan use a bolt-through rail with a hidden fastener. Signs Your Tremron Fence Installation Is Failing

• Posts lean or wobble at grade. The concrete footing has cracked or the post base is corroding. In Santa Clara’s clay-heavy soils, especially in the Rivermark and Northside neighborhoods, winter saturation followed by summer shrinkage cycles the post back and forth until the footing fractures.
• Gate sags and drags the latch strike. The hinge post is twisting or the hinge bracket bolts have loosened. Tremron gates over 42 inches wide need a wheel or a heavier post; without one, the top hinge pulls the post out of plumb over two to three years.
• Rails pull from the post pockets. The rail end is cracked or the pocket fastener has backed out. This happens when thermal expansion meets a rigid connection - the Sierra snap-lock is particularly prone if installed without the required 1/4-inch expansion gap.
• Picket tops discolor or flake. The powder coat is failing at the cut edge where the factory coating was breached during installation. Santa Clara’s UV exposure is moderate but enough to degrade unsealed edges within four to five years.
• Hardware shows orange staining. The zinc coating has breached and the underlying steel is rusting. This is cosmetic until the fastener section reduces by 20 percent, at which point the connection strength drops below code minimum for wind load.

DIY or Call Us?

There is nothing dangerous about fence work in the way there is with electrical or high-tension springs, but there is plenty that goes wrong and stays wrong. A homeowner can safely check whether a post is loose by rocking it at grade, and can tighten lag bolts with a socket set if the gate is sagging. What we see go sideways: posts set in dry-pack concrete that never achieves strength, rails cut short and shimmed with washers, gates hung out of square that rack and bind until the frame cracks.
